John was born in 1938 in England.Before returning to Italy in 1999, he was the director of Art Center College of Design (Europe) based in Switzerland. Littlewood has taught and lectured internationally. Along the way he also found time to indulge his second passion, music, doing choral work with the Handel Opera Society, London, and supernumerary work with the Los Angeles Opera.
John was educated at St. Peters Collegiate School, the Royal School of Church Music, and the Wolverhampton College of Art all in England.
Since returning to Italy in 1999, John has had seven exhibitions in the Umbria-Tuscany area: Idillio Umbro (2002) and Mestieri del Cuore (2004), both sponsored by the Comune di Gubbio; Alberi - the trees of Umbria (2005) at the Grifani-Donati Gallery in Città di Castello; two exhibitions during 2007 in Cortona, and Feelings (2008) at the Galleria dArte Shangril in Cortona, Piccolo è bello (2010) in Umbertide and Bevagna (2012) in Bevagna.
In the fall of 2013, John opened his own Galleria and Studio in Umbertide's historical centre.
