Chase Langford’s paintings transform geography into an expressive vocabulary of color, line, and layered form. Drawing from his early training as a cartographer, Langford extracts the rhythms of terrain—coastlines, waterways, geologic strata—and reimagines them through abstraction. These works do not depict specific places; instead, they evoke the sensation of landscape, the way memory distorts, amplifies, and reshapes our relationship to space.
Working in sweeping bands and intricate linear structures, Langford blurs the boundary between mapping and painting. His canvases hover between aerial view and emotional field, inviting viewers to navigate their surfaces as if traversing an imagined topography. In an age saturated with satellite imagery and digital maps, Langford restores the hand, the gesture, and the poetic impulse to our understanding of place. These paintings offer not an atlas of the world, but an atlas of feeling.
His abstract paintings can be found in permanent collections of the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Long Beach Musuem of art as well as private collections in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia; some notable collections include Magic Johnson, Pete Sampres, Monique Lhuillier, and The Saudi Royal Fami...
