John Briggs

I trained in London & exhibited in the early 1990's, I then digressed spending 19 years creating concepts, graphic design & advertising in England & Australia. Having jointly run an Australian graphic design agency for 10 years; I stopped & am back to being a conduit for ideas, possibilities & the messages that they convey, illustrated using pastels & digital manipulation.

Well known sculptor & artist Terry Summers said of John's exhibition that the art sold at some galleries in the high thousands didn’t come near 'unframed' as art. The high end bought by investors with money to burn might make a space look funky for cocktails on the 16th floor, but the art in this show brought us to our knees.'

The unmistakably unusual element in this show was the approach John took in the
labelling of each work. Each label included the name of the work, the word 'Possibility' & a number of key words John chose to represent some aspect of the theme of the work so that the​ viewer had the opportunity to explore the works as stories of possibility.

Access Arts considers Mr Briggs to be one of the most interesting & exciting visual artists workingin Brisbane. He is an active & committed member of the Access Arts Artistspace group. His work extends to graphic design & he supports other artists with disability through working as professional mentor.
