I am English and born in Liverpool. After boarding school in the Lake District and York, I moved to London where I lived until meeting my wife Virginia Bradley () at a residency in Spain. Virginia gives our romantic background on her Saatchi pages! We now live in Great Barrington and love being back in the country life. As a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers I worked for many years in England with the Consulting Engineering firm of Felix J Samuely and Partners (Samuely worked wit the Bauhaus architects before fleeing Nazi Germany and setting up England). Initially at Samuely I was involved with the re-building of St. Thomas Hospital, opposite the Houses of Parliament and the development of a new University, Warwick. My speciality became inner city re-developments taking responsibility for numerous multi-million pound projects all over England. It was great being surrounded by other artists and gradually learning both about painting, exhibitions and seeing work. I have a long interest in both Jungian and Transpersonal psychology, the poet Rumi and icons. These influences are reflected in my painting, which in part are studies in form and color recalling "inner landscapes", and in part invitations to travel internally without defining a destination. My larger work is intended for public spaces where the vibrant colors and clear forms enhance the environment. I paint because I love the process of painting. The playing with ideas, the thinking how to communicate emotion, the trying to use paint to record internal states.I am always interested to see others reactions to my work, as there is a difference between what you are trying to say and what is generated in the viewer. My website (www.chrismalcomson.com) has both a description of myself and my work by Bruce Alpine, art consultant, collector and ...
