I am an American realist artist who works primarily in traditional mediums and found object assemblage. I was born in Charleston, South Carolina. My work life has taken me to the African continent where I lived in The Gambia (1980-83), Malawi (1988-91) and Namibia (1995-98). I currently reside in Cork, Ireland (Blarney).

My work builds autobiographical narrative of place and history, often focused on architectural and natural subjects in the many locations of my life and work. I am also an academic scholar and former tenured associate professor in the fields of image-based qualitative social research, media and technology in education. This work has influenced my art by contributing to an ethnographic narrative built around the locations and subjects of my painting.

David studied painting and drawing with the late Miguel Angel Argüello at the University of California, Santa Cruz. David has also studied painting with the late Kay Chiromo and stone sculpture with Berlings Kaunda in Malawi, Africa and recently been mentored by painters Michael Brodeur and Phil Garrett in South Carolina. David received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Goddard College, Vermont in 2010.
