Hannah Casey is painter who lives and works in Belfast. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally in Berlin, Paris, New York and Reykjavik.
Casey works mostly in small scale on a variety of grounds of wood, paper, board and metal. She favours a broad range of materials often contrasting her thick, gestural, impasto mark making with layers of intensely defined, linear compositions in pen. Each work is unified by her use of vibrant colour.
The scale of her work, somewhere between the size of a postcard and an airplane window, proposes an intimate viewing experience that conveys a sense of undoubtable sincerity. Always mindful of her audience, she creates perspectives that can sometimes challenge the viewer placing them precariously on a cliff edge or at a safe distance as if one is viewing the scene through binoculars. The landscapes portrayed in Casey’s paintings are places that can be visited once or a hundred times, but each time they will be different.
