Julia Gajewska graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland. In recent years, her artwork has been displayed at various international exhibitions.
Gajewska elaborates her constantly changing subjects with momentum and precision. Most of her recent paintings are created in a spontaneous and intuitive manner, and she creates translucent tones capturing the gesture in a fluid application of paint. Her love of watercolour fuels this practice and continually challenges her.
She aims to create works that convey a sense of poetry of the familiar. In her work, she expresses the longing for a return to simplicity and nature. Playing with our appreciation of time, the scenes she represents resonate with our memories. Gajewska creates a precarious balance between the past and the present, leaving the audience with a sense of dislocation from a definite time and place.
