Mark Palmer

I was born to artistic parents. My mother an actress and father a portrait artist in Buffalo, New York. Art in one form or fashion has always been in my blood. My father having raised 5 children through teaching and painting portraits, encourged his children to pursue a more "practical" career. Hence, I chose a degree in Travel/Tourism and Hotel Management which allowed me a successful career ultimately as a sales and marketing director in the hotel industry.

In my mid 20's the company I was working for, Ritz-Carlton hotels transferred me out to Rancho Mirage CA from Washington, DC. It was there that I began painting small watercolors of desert scenes mostly.

About a year and a half later, I was promoted to a new position at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City, VA and shortly after my return, had my first art opening at a small coffee house in Washington's Adams Morgan neighborhood in 1996. From there, I guess you would say with many "twists and turns" my career as an artist solidified.

In late 1999, I took a "leap of faith" resigning from my Sales and Marketing director position to pursue my art career. Because of my sales and marketing back ground, I was asked to direct Touchstone Gallery in DC which I had been a membe...
