Martin Axel

As an artist, I try to create an atmosphere in paintings that speak to me and to others. Vivid and saturated colors are always present.

I seek to free myself from traditional thinking and to transform my daily perceptions. Whenever I am in a situation, my inner eye constructs a story, which like in a dreamlike state, drifts off to the unconcious realm. In other words, you could say, that I plasm my daydreams onto the canvas. But the transformation of these visions continue during the painting process.

The exploration of different territories, within inner and outer worlds, challenges me to extract aspects of them and to put them both in the same terain, just to see what happens. This study is also a selection of symbolic metaphors, that enrich and question the story of a composition.

I would describe my style as a combination of surrealism, realism and expressionism.

In 1969 I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since then, I went on to live in Holland, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Saudi Arabia, Spain and ended up in Switzerland.

My work is included in private collections in Europe, USA and South America.

A multicultural background drove me, from early age to draw and sketch. Soon I created images and illustrations for flyers, posters and websites. My passion for paints and brushes finally awoke in 2009.

I didn't attend an art teaching institution. But the school of life and my passion has given me the skills I need. School isn't over yet. You can expect more to come.
