Mark Hunter

I am a contemporary realist painter who creates works in oil with the goal of achieving an illusion of three-dimensional depth, atmosphere, luminosity, and mood that represents nature. I want the observer to feel they are inside my paintings, experiencing a sense of place, the sun and spray on their face, the wind in their hair, the movement of the waves, and the rustle of the leaves.

I am an elected member of the American Artists Professional League, and a member of Allied Artists of America, International Guild of Realism, American Society of Marine Artists, Oil Painters of America, and the
National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society.

My art education includes studies with Leonid Gervits at the Art Students League in NYC, with Timothy Jahn at the DuCret School of Art, and with Alex Piccirillo at the Montclair Art Museum School of Art.

I am inspired by the works of Rembrandt, Velasquez, Bouguereau, Vermeer, Sargent, Soralla, Zorn, Edgar Payne, John F. Carlson, and Montague Dawson.

My paintings have been exhibited at the Morris Museum, Naples Museum of Art, Salmagundi Club, Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum, International Guild of Realism, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society, Oil Painter of America, Allied Artists of America, American Artist Professional League and have been featured in American Art Collector Magazine.

I recently received The Katlan Family Seascape Award from the Allied Artists of America at the Salmagundi Club.
