Taimy Ramos

I am Taimy Ramos Velazquez, I am a Cuban-born dancer and self-taught visual artist. I have been residing in Chicago since 2016. My large-scale, mixed-media works serve as shields in life: the vivid colors and rich materials seek to provide protection from pain and the challenges of living abroad, far away from my family, friends, native language, and culture. Recycling objects, materials, and feelings is key to my work; every tiny and not so tiny object comes from my own home or my friends in Chicago. While bringing new life to these disposed objects and turning them into artworks, I experience my own process of healing.

I graduated from the National School of Dance in Havana in 2008 and became a member of the Havana-based company named "Danzabierta," lead by choreographer Susana Pous.
