Finding AND LEARNING

I was born in Turku Finland 1965. My father was a musician and my mom a craftswoman. As a child I already used to draw and I made hundreds of works with water colors, pencil an marker. My only interest in school was drawing. I went to the children's art club held by the sculptor A well-known sculptor Simo Helenius when I was around 7 or 8 years old. In the beginning of 1979 my mom got remarried with painter Yrjö Virtanen. Virtanen was a versatile artist who greatly stimulated me to paint.

I also started painting with oil sometime after the mid 70`s. A crucial year was 1985. Jan Palmu, a good friend of Yrjö Virtanen came to my home.Form him I got the inspiration for still-life paintings, for he taught me how to make a glass object look like glass. Right then something poured out of me- something poured out of me- something I did now known before- that I am an artist and I have been one since I was born, because from a moment I got a pencil in my hand I just drew and drew, living in my own world. On that very year I already had an exhibition in an empty townhouse on Koulukatu. People visited and I even sold one painting.
