Thomas Gale

Nature is the main focus of my work. I feel myself being pulled towards vegetation and capturing its expressive fractal personalities. Likewise whilst I’m continually trying to distill the representation of the figures I find myself getting drawn back into an almost decorative level of detail.

Whilst I’m attracted to the natural world, I feel its important to present it in the environment I’m most familiar with, urban spaces. There are sometimes quite obvious parallels and clashes to be levied from nature vs man-made, but I’m looking for something more subtle in the relationship, something unspoken.

I’m interested in the mundane, but coaxing out something sitting below the surface. By using lurid candy-like colours I aim to create an unreal place.
