Yedidya Falkson is a Johannesburg-based artist whose work blends organic movement, bold colour, and emotional depth to capture the quiet power within everyday moments. Working primarily in oils, he approaches painting as both craft and exploration—an ongoing conversation between creator, creation, and viewer. Falkson’s practice is rooted in authenticity and presence: real studio life, real materials, and real marks made with intention. His pieces often draw from South Africa’s landscapes, textures, and cultural rhythms, expressing a sense of beauty that feels both intimate and expansive. Dedicated to excellence and constant refinement, he creates artworks that invite viewers into a space of contemplation, connection, and enduring aesthetic impact.
Yedidya Falkson’s education is shaped by a rich combination of formal study, early mentorship, and continuous self-directed learning. He began his schooling at Torah Academy in Johannesburg and, from the age of 14, studied under renowned South African artist Ricky Burnett, whose mentorship profoundly influenced his visual language and artistic foundation. Falkson went on to pursue further academic study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and later the University of Johannesburg. He continues to refine his skills through online programmes—including short courses from institutions such as Harvard—broadening his understanding of architecture, design, and the wider visual arts.
Yedidya Falkson has exhibited widely across South Africa and internationally. His first solo exhibition, Scenes of the House (2018), was curated by Ricky Burnett and laid the foundation for his emerging voice as a painter. In 2022 he presented Flowers and Almonds, followed by participation in the New Day Spring Group Exhibition at Graham Contemporary. In 2023 he showed The Past and the Future at the Altair Hotel and later that year presented Rabbonim, a solo exhibition honouring influential rabbinic leaders. He also exhibited at Limmud Johannesburg with Let’s Have a Conversation, expanding his work into communal and educational spaces. In 2024 Falkson held the solo exhibition Past, Present, Future at Victoria Yards. His most recent large-scale body of work, Bouquet (2025), showcased over sixty floral paintings at Schaffler’s Nursery. His practice also includes international mural work created in Brooklyn and Fort Lauderdale in collaboration with Yitzchak Moully.
