Virginie Gallois

About the Artist

Virginie Gallois

France

Inspired by myths and facts from Western culture, Virginie Gallois develops an intuitive practice of drawing and painting: a personal, poetic, and fantastical universe that questions and sparks curiosity. Her research is developed through series, with thematic phases that allow a subject to be explored in depth. This approach is structured around metamorphosis, conceived as a vital principle. Through mythical figures, she brings forth committed heroines and weaves narratives of resistance and transformation. Her creative process—one that she presents in her works and exhibitions—begins concretely in a puddle of water mixed with pigments. She then produces prints using old fabrics or other materials, which she allows to “dialogue” with one another in order to obtain textured backgrounds. She then superimposes layers of ink and paint, mixing techniques to transform these imprints into metaphorical landscapes.
