Unfortunately, the artist isn't me, but my brother. I only look after his interests, trying to give him the visibility he deserves. My brother Mauro, born in July 1961, is a complete artist. Not only for his works, but for the way he has and leads his life. Much of his art is himself; his paintings are only a part of it. His life is a constant performance: 30 years of cycling (a passion he still cultivates); never a vacation trip, no school or academic art education. He spends 95% of his time at home, in the town where he was born. He often talks to himself and dreams of a world inhabited by mute people. He has his own philosophy of life; he's right-wing, reactionary, but lives with a simplicity that's anachronistic to say the least. He eats little and slowly, very slowly. He loves snow and mountains; he's never visited Venice, even though he lives 60 km away. I could write a book about him, but I'll let his paintings do the talking. He taught himself to play the accordion, repeating the same melodies for hours and hours, days and days. He's always drawn and painted. He doesn't have a well-defined technique; it has changed and continues to change frequently. He's never visited a museum. His only way to gauge his technical ability is to occasionally copy a famous painting, taking inspiration from prints in art books: Van Gogh, Botero, Fattori, and others. He currently enjoys photographing local people, who fascinate him, and painting their portraits in everyday life. He's also undergoing a mystical period, where he draws religious subjects.
