Sudden Nightmares Painting

Currently living in Toronto, Canada, VYXTRT is a self-taught artist that has been painting for eight years. At the beginning of her practice VYXTRT painted in oils, leaning towards realism and a more traditional approach. As her practice flourished she developed her own style; incorporating her personal experiences through expressionistic techniques while experimenting with her own unique painting process. From 2017 - 2019 VYXTRT struggled with Social Anxiety and Body Dysphoric Disorder. Painting helped her heal through this process and she expressed her pain and struggles through how she saw her body and identity. During this time is when she transitioned from realism to figurative expressions, preferring to use variety in her mediums and openness in her gestural movements. Using drip techniques and visible brushstrokes on minimal backgrounds allows VYXTRT to put emphasis on ideas of shifting body forms and identities. Working in a variety of sizes from 8x10 up to 34x48 inches, she has expanded her painting tools to include oils, acrylic, pens, pastel, watercolour, and even hot glue. VYXTRT’s unique expressionistic style provides her the freedom to express the human condition in all its pain and flaws.
