Francesco Mercadante

Francesco Mercadante born in the eventful year of 1968 in a hill town in Calabria, now lives and works in Reggio Emilia, combining his profession as an interior decorator with his great passion for photography.

A pivotal moment in his photographic journey was his study of the work of Ernst Haas, a pioneer of color photography and the use of movement within images. The Calabrian photographer developed this technique in his own unique way, leading to the creation of several original collections. Among these is “Il colore della gente” (The Color of People), which was the subject of a feature published in the Italian magazine Marie Claire under the title “Estate liquida” (Liquid Summer).

His colors evoke childhood memories and the carefree nature of fleeting moments of happiness, captured in shots where the subject is transfigured into a textural and atmospheric fluidity. Mercadante’s “Il colore della gente” has evolved from a project into a book, published by Corsiero Editore.

In January 2024, Mercadante received a Career Achievement Award in Naples from the Accademia dei Dioscuri.
