Lucy O’Donovan is a figurative artist whose work explores the emotional tension between vulnerability and strength. She paints the human form as a site of intimacy, memory, and quiet psychological drama.
Her fascination lies in the raw, tactile parts of the body — muscle, tendon, fat, skin — where emotion sits beneath the surface. Through sculpted layers of paint, she captures people in suspended private moments, revealing feelings that are usually hidden or masked.
Rooted in her own emotional exploration, Lucy uses her anatomical training to contour the contrasting layers of the body with honesty and authenticity, resisting the social pressure toward idealised beauty.
Her intention is to invite viewers to recognise the emotions present in her figures and reflect on their own inner worlds — considering what they show outwardly, and what they choose to keep concealed.
