Sofia Basterra Burns

Hello, I am an artist with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. I was born in Michigan and raised in the USA and Spain. I currently combine my artistic work with teaching as an Art teacher and organizing exhibitions.

I have held a large number of solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. My work is mainly developed in the disciplines of painting, mural painting, and printmaking.

I paint everyday scenes and objects— ordinary becomes extraordinary. Personal treasures, objects, and places with special meaning inspire me. I use photographs as a guide. At the same time, my work is autobiographical; I depict experiences, places, and objects associated with memories and emotions. Color is a fundamental characteristic. My pieces are vibrant, fresh, and highly colorful, with a touch of pop aesthetic.
