This piece evolved from a pair of paintings I created based on news reports from war torn Iraq. I liked the paintings and translated the image to a block print format.

I was born in New London, Connecticut and was raised in college towns in the Northeast, outside of Philadelphia and in the Midwest, outside of Cincinnati. It’s difficult to identify specific and consistent influences in my work, because my goals and objectives as a picture maker evolve so frequently. Although, a representational element is and has been constant throughout. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever created a purely abstract image as a finished piece of artwork. For the past 30 years or so, my work has run the gamut from straight forward 2’x3’ sharp focus still life paintings to a 24’x16’x9’ assemblage exploring the American phenomenon of gun violence to an assemblage comprised of harvested litter packaged for sale as part of the so-called green economy. Presently, I’m painting and framing loose, action pictures that suggest vintage toys and vague impressions of Christmastime memories of the 1970s. A rhythm has emerged, so it seems likely that I’ll continue in this mode for a while.
