Born in 1974 in Denmark, Christina Holdgaard has been living and working in Paris for over fifteen years.
Christina Holdgaard is both a trained artist, having followed a practical education in various Left Bank ateliers, and an art historian, graduating from Sorbonne University in Paris. The originality of her work is based upon this dual, practical and academic, background, as well as on her inspiration, rooted in both the French and the Scandinavian formal and stylistic vocabularies. The visual quality of her work is striking from the first glance : the colors are intense and seductive. They are spread in large and dense, sometimes patterned, surfaces, giving the paintings a very even and pop-art touch. Moreover, the static pose of the models, combined with the large size of the canvases, adds to the felt impression of sculptural monumentality and physical presence.
