Daniel Pincham-Phipps is a British artist known for painting and his past career as a comic book illustrator. His work has evolved from biographical, figurative pieces to more abstract and expressive styles influenced by his cartooning background. Daniel Pincham-Phipps | Saatchi Art Artistic style and career Early work: Inspired by relationships and autobiographical experiences, his early art focused on abstracting and expressing the human figure. Comic artist: From 1979 to 1992, he worked as a cartoonist for publications like The Beano, Dandy, Topper, and Whizzer and Chips, as well as for Hanna-Barbera. This background later influenced his fine art, which began incorporating graphic lines and bright colours. Artistic influences: His work is associated with movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Expressionism, and Urban Expressionism. Figurative Abstraction: Over time, his style shifted to what he calls "Figurative Abstraction." He often reworks pieces repeatedly in a process of searching for their identity. Later work: More recent work has become more outward-looking and expressive, with a focus on observing human behaviour and society. Education and exhibitions He studied fine art at South Essex University, following his career as a comic artist. He has had both solo and group exhibitions. Notable shows include The Stuckists Punk Victorian at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool in 2004, and shows at The Nunnery Gallery in London and Cynorrhodon in Paris. His work is collected internationally.
