Carnival Drawing

I am a Lithuanian visual artist currently living in Copenhagen. Graduated from Kaunas Arts Gymnasium I studied Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Central Lancashire (UK) and MA Visual Arts at University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts. Two artworks from my final bachelor project were presented at ‘Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2014’ young artists contest. That is one of the most important events in the UK outlining emerging young artist. In my artworks I analyze the moment of presence using mythology and traditional art – drawing. My artworks are stories exploring social etiquette and humans‘ behavior. The recent artworks are paintings-symbols, portraying daily and often seen objects, inquiring what particular associations those symbols imply to. I am creating a contemporary myth. Exploring social and cultural problems which I analyse within medium based on narrative stories. Using traditional art techniques I reach the materiality and originality, though connect using modern method – animation. I often rely on my personal experience, but also I am taking advantage of traditions, folklore and mythology. The latter has inspired to create a contemporary – 21st century myth where the focus is modern culture and its society. Through drawings, paintings and animation I discuss about consumerism, alienation, identity, humans behavior and etiquette.
