The portrait is a strange genre: it does not enjoy much prestige apparently among the artists, and yet no one stops thinking about some of them when tracing the history of art. From the Lady of Elche to Lucien Freud, from La Gioconda to Van Gogh.
The challenge can respect the models or it can destroy them, it can transcend personalities and present hidden aspects of the characters. The creator raises its own codes.
There are few current artists who dare to do a whole series of portraits, like the one presented by Luisa Pagola.
Francis Bacon said: "The model is a person of flesh and blood, and what must be captured is what emanates from that person. I do not speak in spiritual terms and so on - that is the last thing I believe in. But each person emanates something, no matter who it is, and in some people the emanation is stronger. "
I do not doubt that Luisa Pagola manages to catch what emanated from each of her models. And it also achieves this, through an impeccable technique and with a clear aesthetic approach. A true artist.
