I’m Don Samec, a French-born, Cork-based artist working in analog collage and photography. My work is built from the physical world: torn pages, textures of the street, vintage print, and discarded fragments reassembled into raw, layered compositions.
Before collage, I spent years as a commercial photographer and video editor — crafting stories through cuts, rhythm, and juxtaposition. That experience naturally evolved into collage, where I now slice and layer paper instead of film. Both mediums rely on instinct, timing, and the tension between what’s shown and what’s left out.
My collages often begin with my own photographs — urban details, graffiti, or the quiet visual chaos of Cork’s streets. These images become source material, transformed with found paper, irony, and an appreciation for things worn and overlooked. I work instinctively, letting humor, memory, and mood guide each piece.
I don’t aim for perfection, I aim for presence. My work is rough, honest, and tactile, reflecting a world that’s not perfect, but undeniably real.
