Paul Rothera

Paul lives in Derbyshire, where the rich local countryside continually inspires his practice. Whether working open air or within the studio, he seeks to evoke the atmospheric qualities of the natural environment.

Paul brings decades of experience to both his own art and his teaching. As a passionate educator, he’s led workshops, guiding everyone from complete beginners to experienced painters in capturing light, form, and mood through intuitive observational drawing. His courses range from short taster sessions to intensive residential retreats.

Paul's love of drawing has led him to develop his work. This fundamentally leans on his drawing skills to create and develop shapes. Paul's portraits and landscapes look to achieve an emotional connection with everyday settings.

Born in Staffordshire, Paul studied architecture at Liverpool university and has worked as an artist and architect for many years. Paul now lives and works in Derbyshire.
