Rafael Frausto is an American artist currently living in Berlin, Germany. His work explores religious and social structures through imagery depicting bones, trees, walls and minimal geometric shapes. Rafael uses the body as a means to play with and question the aesthetics of gender identity and classification, more precisely, the place of both gender identity and religion within society by way of minimal simplifications of form and representation.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Rafael studied fine art with an emphasis in painting and printmaking at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Within this period, he also spent a year studying at the Faculdad de Bellas Artes at the University of Barcelona, Spain. During his studies, Rafael received the prestigious Getty undergraduate internship grant where he had an opportunity to work closely with the communications department of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. In recent years, Rafael has led a successful career in communication design, working internationally with fortune 500 clients in the U.S. and Europe.
