AKORE is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist and a leading figure in Barcelona’s contemporary urban art scene. With a career spanning over three decades, his work has evolved from the 1980s hip-hop outskirts to the forefront of international academic and cultural discourse.
The Afrocolor Aesthetic
Rooted in African spirituality and identity, AKORE is the creator of the "Afrocolor" style—a vibrant synthesis of urban graffiti, tribal forms, and abstract expressionism. His signature portraits of African women serve as powerful totems of cultural memory and ancestral strength, bridging his Mediterranean roots in Murcia with his deep-seated spiritual affinity for the African continent.
Creative Resistance & Sustainability
AKORE’s practice is an act of "Creative Resistance." He is known for painting large-scale murals in public spaces in broad daylight, reclaiming the urban landscape as a site for spontaneous, pure expression. Committed to environmental ethics, he integrates recycled materials—doors, traffic signs, scrap metal—into his sculptures and canvases, transforming urban "waste" into high-value contemporary art.
