Adam Martin Disbrow is an American Expressionist painter with national exposure. His art addresses issues of relationships, spirituality, sexuality, duality, beauty, relativism, nature, and dominion. His paintings involve many layers and often include symbols of Disbrow's own creation and of historical significance. Also discernible in his work are heavy textures, interpretive colors, language, and formal techniques which combine to make each painting a unique statement. His intention is to create a free space for the mind and eye to express itself honestly.
"My work is a conglomerate of the ubiquitous counterposed with rare, precious, or divine elements. By approaching a new piece in a state of “no mind” I begin a work in an aleatoric way, adding specificity and objectivity as the piece develops so the work becomes a dynamic objective statement. My execution is recognizably influenced by Basquiat and Picasso, and more subtly by the work of Cy Twombly, Jasper Johns, Edvard Munch, Ha Chong Hyun, Pierre Soulages, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall.
