Anja Sieber

Anja Sieber was born in Offenbach/Main in 1964. She studied French and Portuguese Literature as well as media science at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. During a study visit in Lisbon from 1985 to 1986 she discovered painting and created her first art installations. In 1992 she co-founded the publishing company AVINUS. 1993–1998 she lived and worked for five years as a film critic in Paris. 2008–2013 Sieber studied painting at the Akademie für Malerei Berlin. Final degree: Master Student of Ute Wöllmann. 2012–2014 she was a member of the artist-run Galerie ROOT am Savignyplatz, Berlin. After a quite long period in Berlin, she lives and works since 2015 in Hamburg and soon also in Berlin again. Currently represented by the independent art room BUNKERHILLGalerie, Hamburg. She was represented by various galleries at international art fairs like the Miami River Art, Art Beijing, art KARLSRUHE, Kunst Zürich, PREVIEW BERLIN. Part of private art collections in Zurich, Berlin and Hamburg. Her claim:

1983 – 1990 M. A. phil. in French and Portuguese Language, Literature and Culture as well as in the sciences of Dramatic Arts (Theatre, Film and TV) at Goethe-University in Frankfurt-on-Main

1985 – 1986 studies for one year in Lisbon, Portugal, starts with painting, first art installations

1989 – 1990 one year stay in Lyon, France, doing researches for and preparing the master thesis about the "French cinema of the 1930s and 1940s" at Institut Lumière

since 1992 Co-founder and editor of the edition house AVINUS

1993 – 1998 independent journalist for culture themes in Paris, begins with the translation into German of the book "Portuguese film histories" written by J. B. da Costa

2006 – 2007 intensive (preparatory) courses and for one semester student at the KUNSTgut. Schule für Gegenwartskunst, painting class of Frank Pieperhoff

2008 – 2013 studies painting at Akademie für Malerei Berlin, final degree: Master Student of Ute Wöllmann (Georg Baselitz disciple)

2012 – 2014 member of the artist-run gallery ROOT am Savignyplatz, Berlin
