Andrei Ardeleanu

I am a 32-Year-old self-taught artist born and raised in Bucharest, with a background in the field of architecture.
While architectural education and practice have allowed me to develop my drawing skills and to discover the wonders of conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving, my spirit has always been drawn to the freedom of expression which I associate with painting and visual arts.

Whenever I paint, I start from an idea and allow myself to explore various ways in which that idea can develop into a visual and coherent form. Most of the time, embracing the unknowing aspect in relation to the possible outcome is what allows the ideas to grow, as I maintain an ongoing experimental approach from one artwork to the next.

I like to challenge myself and, in doing so, I rely on keeping myself detached from styles of representation or fixed standards. However, in turning my inward journeys into visual expressions, I guide myself through Constantin Brancusi's quote that 'Art must give suddenly and all at once the shock of life and the sensation of breathing'.

Although I currently paint with acrylics on canvas, I have also experimented with digital art, graphic design, stencils and spraycans, acrylic markers and pastels.

Alongside my architectural education at the University of Architecture and Urbanism 'Ion Mincu' in Bucharest, which I have graduated in 2014, as a self-taught artist I have undertaken numerous study trips and visits to art museums and galleries, enjoyed drawing or painting in Van Gogh's Museum in Amsterdam, on the beaches of Normandy, at Queen Mary's Palace in Balchik and strolling through Monet's famous watergarden in Giverny.
