Since her arrival in Menorca(Spanish island), Roman has tried themes such as the relation between the woman and the world; the search for new solutions to the problems that plague the world; the north-south relationship, the Earth as a homely space and as a desolate place, the need to create bridges and sew the Earth together. Her first exposition was in 1987, since then, she has participated in collective expositions in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Berlin, Valencia (Art and Environment Fair/ Feria de Arte y Medio ambiente 2005), Mallorca, Menorca, Los Angeles (USA) (Art Rental & Sales Gallery, LA County Museum of Art) and individual expositions in Menorca, Madrid and Los Angeles (United States). Her artistic roots are found in various corners of the world, from Madrid to Holland in 1984 and the United States—specifically Los Angeles—where she lived from 1994 to 1997. These places marked the beginning of a process of artistic exploration that led her to investigate and experiment across different disciplines. Her arrival in Menorca in 1997 represented a turning point in her career, inspiring a creative approach that moved away from conventional art circuits. Her work draws on the experience and knowledge acquired in diverse places and fields of study, reflecting a deep commitment to nature and the pursuit of equity in society. One of the fundamental pillars of her work is the project “Latitude 40º: Sewing the Earth.” This artistic initiative seeks to restore the fractures caused by humanity on the planet. Along the 40th parallel, she has carried out significant installations and artistic actions, such as the sculpture “The Giantess’s Needle” on Mongofre Beach in Menorca. This work is not only an artistic manifestation, but also a call to attention regarding the environmental, social, cultural, gender, and racial fractures that must be repaired. The project “Latitude 40º: Sewing the Earth” has continued to expand and evolve over the years, including interventions in Sardinia in 2013; at the Matadero cultural center in Madrid with “Washing the River” in 2015; and an intervention on Normandi Beach in New Jersey, New York, in 2017. She is currently working between New York and Menorca on the project “Sewing the Earth.” Her work is nourished by material and its interaction with the environment, reflecting her commitment to nature, art, and society, offering an opportunity to reflect and to use art as a tool for encounter and transformation.
