Daniel Levi

I am a South African German Jewish artist, living in Cape Town.
I grew up in South Africa but I am also a German citizen as my paternal grandfather was a Jewish refugee who escaped the Nazi's in WW2 and fled to South Africa in the 1930's. My Maternal grandparents were Lithuanian refugees who escaped the anti-semitic rule of Czar Nicholas II in first decade of 1900. I studied fine art at the University of Cape Town with honours in painting. I have worked as a film director and an artist and my work is informed strongly by my knowledge and love of cinematography, as well as being influenced by my European roots and that, as someone with refugee roots, I strongly identify with outsiders and feel compelled to capture the spirit of people who feel apart from society.
