Edwin Jumalon

The vision and concept that inform Edwin Jumalon’s art practice is not the depiction of nature or the linear recording of life experiences. Rather, it is finding the way of shaping incidental narratives through recontextualization of imageries.
His liking for synthesis is the factor that makes his art come to light- that which adds up to permitting free rein to the imagination. Eliciting nonrational, divergent, “accidental” messages to unfold in the process, Jumalon’s subject takes place during the act of painting.
He juxtaposes images from memory, photographs, nature, and drawings - not of nostalgia, but of spatial play, building up the work and inventing the subject matter. He aims for the composition to be holistic- not to reconstruct sentiments or to rescue memories but to present as effect of the spontaneous excursion with perception.
Jumalon lets out unintended narratives to emerge in his paintings...narratives that evoke, rather than describe.

He has exhibited on twelve(12) occasions with his family; in two-person shows with wife,with daughters,or with peer artists- notably at the following venues: the Cultural Center of the Philippines,Pasay City, Galeria delas Islas,Intramuros Manila, at the House of Congress,Quezon City,Phoenix Gallery in Baguio City, the Art Walk,SM Megamall,and at the National Museum Zamboanga branch.

He has participated intensively in more than fifty(50) group exhibitions held nationally and in places abroad like Shanghai and Hongkong,in Thailand,in Singapore,and in Venice,Italy.
