Moonmambo, an autobiographical project, is a series of characterful illustrations in a style Teresa has been developing. “I have been drawing since I was a kid. Moonmambo came up from different influences, like dance.” On first glance her illustrations appear innocent due to their pastel colour palette. However, once you look a little closer these creatures’ cheekily bare bodies start appear. Teresa’s use of a luscious pink to depict bare thighs and buttocks of what appear to be warped burlesque dancers creates quite a wholesome outcome, when it’s actually a bit naughty.
Her additional use of a complete black background hints towards the darker content of these drawings of headless and mysterious figures. It’s a refreshing style of illustration, amusing in its bold and brazen curves, with no need to fully explain the context of the drawings.
