Elena Duff

I was born in London and was raised and lived in Ireland until moving to Berlin, Germany in 2007. After 6 years in Berlin, I returned to Ireland in 2013.

I completed a joint degree in Fine Art Painting and Art History at the National College of Art and Design in Thomas Street, Dublin and graduated with honours in 1995. My work has been exhibited in Ireland the UK and Germany among others and features in private collections in Germany and Ireland.

The broad theme for my work is 'Fairytales for adults' - I like to depict the unseen thoughts, stories, imaginings, dreams and emotions that go on inside our heads - mine in specific.

For the last few years I had been drawing and later sculpting small figures which bordered between lifelike and doll-like as subjects for my art - both painting and sculpture. However, since returning to Ireland from Berlin I have graduated onto using real people and environments as painting subjects rather than a self-constructed world.
