Work on Cardboard
Work on cardboard began in 1991 when I found myself living in Venice Italy as a student equipped with pencils, paint, brushes and various materials to make marks but no money to buy anything to put these materials on. I saw a sanitation worker collecting all the discarded cardboard boxes from a supermarket and he kindly carted them to my studio. I continue to work on the material because I’ve come to love it. The texture and its ability to have its own mind lend spontaneity to the process when working on it. I must say that cardboard isn’t what it used to be. This has made it difficult for me to continue working on it.
Drawing a Day Concept
This idea unconsciously developed over a few years. It started when I tried to make a commitment to draw every day. My sketchbook has been an important part of my life for years but there were days when I wouldn’t draw in it even though it was with me all the time. Also thoughts came into play regarding when is a piece complete and when do we stop working on it? For me, being in the moment and being mindful of doing the piece overpowers any thoughts of past or future. How can I push this more? H...
