Sigurborg Stefansdottir was born and raised in Iceland, but received her art education in Denmark. Her works span a range of media, including painting, collage, artist´s books, fabric as well as illustrations. Abstraction and the concept of spontaneus forms is the basis of Sigurborg’s works, often with a dash of humour. She plays with colour, form and lines in abstract, in a sometimes figurative style. She rarely gives a title to her paintings, as she wants the viewer to experience the picture rather than “understand”. For her, pictures can be somhow beyond words, like music. Sigurborg has participated regularly in numerous exhibitions, both with paintings, collage and artist´s books. Her interest in various art forms has led her to seek out various courses and seminars, for example in the USA, Japan and Mexico. She taught for several years at the Icelandic School of Arts and Crafts and the Icelandic University of the Arts. Sigurborg now concentrates exclusively on her own artwork and has a studio in Reykjavík. She is a member of SÍM, The Assoiciation of Icelandic Visual Artists.
