Derek Redican

I started my career as a professional illustrator before switching to advertising and design. My work is now split between art(oils, mixed media, watercolour painting, drawing, AI Imaging and design/advertising.

I studied Visual Communications at DIT in Dublin before moving to London to work as a Visualiser for a design house. Then went on to become an Airbrush Illustrator in Leicester. After entering advertising with Ogilvy & Mather in Dublin, I began to work and live extensively around the globe at ad agencies in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Currently, I'm in an experimental phase using techniques developed when I was originally working as a full-time illustrator. Expressive realism is my new passion and my goal is to push my techniques to their limit so that the results outdo in impact, subtlety, and ambiance, anything that a camera lens can achieve. The payoff for the buyer or art fan is the knowledge that every tiny mark they see in my work has been applied painstakingly by hand onto the paper. This is also the payoff that drives me to seek greater complexity and perfection in every piece I work on.
