I live in England and work in my studio on each new series of paintings. I often accompany the canvasses with a group of smaller studies in pastel.
This new series of oil paintings study the contrasts of North Africa's hidden and ancient Medinas. The garden of YSL has provided another collection of images which add to the brilliant light in these montage works. It has been the sense of time, the texture and atmosphere of these places and their dazzling settings that has reained with and inspired me. The paintings are rich in terracotta, stone and the colours of sun- washed flowers. Travels in this region and the lingering impression of its atmosphere and magic are explored in these paintings.
