These paintings reflect my interest in the capacity of color to invoke the various states of being inhabited by the human psyche. My artistic goal is to illuminate the feelings that can be evoked by a soft cerulean blue or a violent alizarin crimson; the memories that can be accessed in the harmonies of a gentle wash of violets or an elemental crust of earthtones; the inner turmoils that can be brought to view in a dissonance of indigos, ochres, and reds.
This is the inherent potential of nonobjective art. Freed from the constraints of pictorial depiction, the essential elements of painting -- color, contrast, movement, form -- in and of themselves may summon the same emotional or intellectual responses as can traditional, representational art.
As an abstract expressionist painter, I invite the viewer to discover the ways in which nonobjective art can give expression to his or her own emotional, psychic, and human experience.
