YEMMING Charles Hugues is a Cameroonian contemporary artist whose practice explores identity, memory, social justice, resilience, and the human experiences often left unseen. Working primarily through figurative painting and mixed media, he combines expressive gestures, fragmented imagery, layered surfaces, collage, and stitched or reconstructed materials.
His visual language is rooted in the tension between rupture and reconstruction. Torn, burned, fragmented, and repaired surfaces become metaphors for wounds, memory, resistance, and the possibility of rebuilding. His works often explore the body, childhood, gender, education, inequality, and the complex realities of contemporary African societies.
Alongside his studio practice, Yemming works as an art educator in Cameroon. His work has been presented internationally through exhibitions and art events in Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, and Cameroon.
Through painting, he seeks to make invisible stories visible and transform personal and collective experiences into powerful visual narratives.
