Dr Stanislav Shmelev is an award winning British photographer, selected as one of 120 world's best contemporary artists of 2021 by Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, Italy, painter, environmentalist and art historian. Educated in art history and drawing and holding a PhD in Ecological Economics (2003), MA in Photography from Falmouth University (2019) and being a 2021 cohort member at Global EMBA from London School of Economics, New York University Stern School of Business and HEC Paris (2021), Stanislav combines his interest in fine art and sustainability and expresses his admiration for the natural world through oil paintings and photographs, printed on aluminium plates. Passionate about green economy, nature protection and sensitive ecosystems, Stanislav creates evocative environmental landscapes inspired by his travels in Brazil, Malaysia, the UK, France and the countries of the Mediterranean. Formerly a member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, Senior Researcher at the Oxford University, and Visiting Professor at Universities of Geneva, Paris and Versailles, National University of Colombia, Stanislav devotes all his energy to the promotion of sustainability ideas both through the language of art and of science.
