Julie Parkinson

I am a full-time working Artist living in Durham City, UK. I work in acrylics, watercolours and other mediums, and I also love to make mono relief prints, mono-screen prints and collographs.
My paintings and prints are visceral, vivid, emotional and expressive. They are abstract but they are informed and inspired by the movement and rhythm of the natural world - its energy and flow and the synthesis between the landscape, the human body and the living organism.
I build up layers of translucent, transparent and semi-opaque or metallic colour to create an illusion of space, depth and luminosity and to evoke a feeling of the ephemeral or suggest something of the veiled and mysterious, or the fiery and the passionate.
My paintings could almost be seen as doors into other worlds - of multi coloured river deltas, of hot red lava flows, or shimmering misty landscapes, mountains or tangled roots and jungles of plants and trees, or something as delicate as the structure of a dragonfly's wing.
