Simon Rutherford

I am a Photographer of British Parentage. I was born in Kenya in the 1960s before Kenya gained independence. I have traveled a lot in the course of my quest to take images that depict the diversity of this wonderful world in which we live.

I have a particular interest in underwater images both video and stills. I will be hoping in the future to have many of these images available on Saatchi Online for print sales.

I trained at the Bournemouth Arts Institute in the mid 1980s I gained my BTEC diploma in design (photography) I then went into employment to keep and income coming in as I had a young family to feed and keep a roof over their heads. I took a job as a trainee medical Photographer in Poole in Dorset, UK.
I stayed there and undertook further training in applied photography leading up to me gaining a City & Guilds Diploma in Applied Photography. I then went on and gained an Advanced Diploma in Applied Photography. I staid in Medical photography and worked my way up until in the early 1990s I was a Senior medical Photographer in the UK NHS and the deputy DIstrict Head of Department for Medical Photography / Media Services.

In December 1996 An accident at work changed the course of my career as following this accident I was made redundant. This gave me the chance to return to my true love of landscape, underwater and portrait and nude photography. I am thrilled to be able to show my portfolio of work created by me over the last 25 years or so. I hope you enjoy viewing my images and feel that you would like to purchase a copy of one or more of my images.
