Cavallaro Martegani

Our artistic partnership begins in 1999 when we start working as illustrators. As time goes by we learn not just to share the same images, but we start looking at the world through each other’s eyes. This knowing and recognising each other leads us slowly but consistently to the need of a more complete freedom of expression. Our vision of the world is dreamlike and yet it has a strong physical component, we like drawing what we dream trying to interpret it together.

In a dream images overlap, they are fragmented...like in a collage, technique that has bound us since day one and that we constantly study and develop. We see painting and collage as a whole, strips of sellotape, wrapping paper, texture are actually painted but still feel tangible. In each and every shard of our tale live one or more images: one theme, different points of view. We believe that looking at our paintings an ensemble of elements show through, an apparent chaos that brings with it what we want to be and communicate the world we live in.

Cinzia Cavallaro was born in Milan in 1975. Valentina Martegani was born in Somma Lombardo in 1977. They studied illustration at the European institute of design and painting at the Brera academy of fine arts, then moved on working as illustrators for magazines like Vogue, Elle, Specchio, Il sole 24 ore. They collaborate with reknowned adevrtising agencies such as J. Walter Thompson, Havas World Wide, McCann Erickson. Since 2006 they’ve been lecturers at the European Institute of Design.

Dopo gli studi di illustrazione all’Istituto Europeo di Design e di pittura all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, hanno lavorato come illustratrici per testate come Vogue, Elle, Specchio, Il sole 24 ore. Collaborano con note agenzie pubblicitarie tra cui J. Walter Thompson, Havas World Wide, McCann Erickson. Dal 2006 sono docenti all’Istituto Europeo del Design.
