Aleksandr Kuznetsov - born in Siberia. Photographer. Director, scriptwriter, cameraman of documentary films. Champion of the USSR in mountaineering, 1987, 1990. Participant of the ascent to Everest on a new route, 1996. For many years worked as a photojournalist in the Siberian press.
In the French four-part movie: “La Russie dans l'objectif” (ARTE France, Artline Films, 2017), which shows the work of contemporary Russian photographers, in the first series “In Search of Utopia” - a story about Alexander Kuznetsov. “From the vastness of the Siberian mountains to dehumanized prisons and factories, Aleksandr Kuznetsov questions the boundaries between oppression and freedom.”

Graduated from the State Technical University (Siberian Federal University).
More than 100 times participated in educational programs, seminars, workshops, master classes, etc.

Solo exhibitions in India (Calcutta, 1990), Scotland (Dundee, 1990), New Zealand (Auckland, 1991), Australia (Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, 1991, 1992), France (Boulogne-Biancourt, 1992), USA (Santa Barbara, 1992), Germany (Halbronn, 1993, Passau, 1999), Moscow (2002, 2003, 2004), St. Petersburg (2006), Almaty (2006).
Winner of the International Photo Festival “Interphoto-2003” in the category “Contemporary Photography of Siberia”.
Grand prize at the Siberian Photo Biennale in Surgut (2005, 2007). In 2001 - exhibited at the IV Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale the project “River of Time”, a story about the life of prisoners in the former Gulag camps in Krasnoyarsk Krai (collaboration with Carl de Keyser (Magnum Photos)).
In 2002, an expanded version of the exhibition entitled “Farewell, Gulag?” was presented at the Sakharov Museum and Community Center (Moscow). In 1991-1992 he participated in the international photo exchange “California-Siberia”, which was a professional tour with lectures and exhibitions supported by the Brooks Institute of Photography (Santa Barbara, USA).
