My paintings explore the stereotyping of roles with society; why and how society views individuals, who should fulfill certain roles, and the labels and messages we are bombarded with.
Other works explore the inherently personal sensation of experiencing colours. The interplay of colours in my work explores the concept of "˜colour-constancy' forcing you to scrutinise and to question the colours you think you see.
Colour is the subject in these works; the purity of paint used in production is paramount in attempting to mimic the physiological process of perceiving the real world. Illusory-motion is created by juxtaposing colours and adjusting the colour band thicknesses. This effects the colour-relationships highlighting research showing us that it is not only the colours used that are important, but how they are arranged also.
