Anybody who calls in John Claridge's and Robert Dowling's portfolios to see if they want to assist them is destined to go far. Cymon Taylor did exactly that, and his gall paid off for he ended up assisting Dowling for a year. After his time with Dowling came to an end, Taylor went to the U.S. where he worked for Annie Leibovitz, followed by two year's freelance assisting in New York doing occasional pieces for interview magazine on the side. Since his time assisting Taylor has built up a series of separate books not content with restricting himself to one narrow area. The surprising thing is that his car book is as strong as his portrait book, which in turn is as strong as his landscapes. "˜You can't bore people with what you're doing; there's no point in having fifty images all of different things in one book. I do have a number of different books and we angle them towards whoever we're approaching. I've always looked for something that is, in inverted comas, real, where there is something to be said about a subject, but also about the photographer too' To date Taylor has done well for himself working nationally and internationally for o&m, lintas, BBDO and Saatchi's amongst many others. his aims are to build up his advertising commissions and "˜keep on improving the books because that's what it's all about ultimately, trying to keep you standards as high as possible' Not content with one discipline Taylor has an active sport interest which is divided between motor racing bikes, cars and horses in the main. Taylor has spent the last fourteen years in Italy where his children are growing up happily and is now fluent in the language and culture! However his business is still based in the UK and is now aiming to continue traveling and to collaborate with Press/Picture agency's to expand this wide photographic foundations.
